"As an artist I'm trying to make something - an illuminated manuscript - entirely by hand, tediously, as it was done centuries ago. It seems to me that this is something unique that artists can do in the world today - as opposed to working with video that can also make television shows and movies, or sound, or websites, or whatever "cutting edge" technology you want to choose."
